For Researchers

The East Midlands Secure Data Environment (SDE) provides you with a new regional health data resource to assist your research and analysis.

Our SDE offers a single point of access for a range of research data. We are developing data pipelines in collaboration with multiple providers from across the region, starting with our five early adopter projects – find out more about these below.

By joining up data resources from across the East Midlands, we can better serve the health needs of diverse communities around the region – and help power your scientific discoveries.

The East Midlands SDE is also the platform in which you will also be able to analyse research data.

As one of the 12 interoperable SDEs across England, our ambition is to reduce unnecessary barriers to doing research which is of public benefit. We will do this where research matches the public’s preferences for how they want their data to be used.

We aim to make a positive impact on front-line NHS healthcare services by supporting research studies. This will be achieved by granting approved researchers access to health data under the highest data protection standards.

In the East Midlands, we represent a diverse range of communities with varying health needs, some of them severe. We work closely with patients and the public to listen to their views and ensure the way research data is used on our platform reflects the requirements of the five million people who live in our region.

We are learning from and evolving our programme via our five early adopter projects. By working closely on these research projects, we will make incremental improvements to our service.
